The Terence “Bud” Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. rematch won’t happen anytime soon with Spence recently getting eye surgery he could be out for months.
Crawford who is currently rated as the pound for pound king of boxing and undisputed champion at 147 pounds, will likely want to stay active and capitalize on the momentum of his biggest career win. He could defend his undisputed welterweight title against a credible big name opponent while Spence is recovering.
On his rise to the Welterweight division Crawford called out the great Filipino ring legend Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao while both were under the Top Rank promotions banner, but the fight never came to fruition.
Now that Crawford is his own promoter and can do business with anyone he chooses, and Pacquiao rumored to want one last big fight in boxing, they could make the fight happen.
Boxing reporter ESNEWS recently caught up with Manny Pacquiao’s long time strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune in Hollywood and asked him what he thought of Pacquiao taking on Terence Crawford.
“I like that fight,” Fortune told ESNEWS of a possible Pacquiao vs. Crawford bout. “Listen, if Pacquiao gets back in top shape, its still a 50-50 fight. Manny’s a freak. Crawford’s good, I like Bud a lot, but its still a 50-50 fight. Manny is still very, very fast, and still punches like a train, so you know it’s a good fight.
“A good question is how does Crawford deal with Manny’s footwork or speed and Manny’s unorthodox style? It’s a big fight,” said Fortune.
If the fight goes down between the 45-year-old Pacquiao and 36-year-old Crawford, Fortune said the best weight would be at 147 pounds because the Filipino southpaw even in his 40s can make the welterweight division easily.
Pacquiao currently has an April 20th boxing exhibition with Muay Thai kickboxing legend Buakaw Banchamek scheduled, after he finishes that line of business he could negotiate a comeback fight.
