Boxing does it to us once again or shall I say, Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum does it to us again.
We all know Bob Arum’s BS press conference announcing that Floyd Mayweather Jr. didn’t answer the deadline for a possible showdown with Manny Pacquiao was fishy. The truth of the matter is, they had no serious negotiations because Floyd Mayweather Jr. already said he was taking time off from boxing, it was all a marketing ploy by Bob Arum to make it seem like Floyd was ducking Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito would step in for the supposed “coward” Mayweather.
I don’t think the boxing fans are that dumb, they know when they’re being fooled and this is one of those times.
Bob Arum, should know putting his top dog against a tarnished fighter, who was caught doing something illegal [caught with plastered hand-wraps before his 2009 TKO loss to Shane Mosley] and suspended for it, will be a black eye for the sport of boxing and to his credibility as a boxing promoter. I guess he will have to learn the hard way, when nobody orders this fight.
Why does a cheater like Antonio Margarito deserve a chance? What does that teach our children? That it’s okay to lie, cheat and steal and you will get rewarded for it instead of punished?
I don’t see the logic behind all of this.
I like Manny Pacquiao and what he stands for outside of the ring and how he helps his Filipino people but he needs to speak up for himself and tell his promoter that he wants to fight a more credible opponent.
In boxing, the fighters are the bosses, without them, the promoters are nothing.
What do you think? Does Antonio Margarito deserve a shot at a multi-million dollar payday with superstar Manny Pacquiao?
