Golden Boy Promotions, Prolly Cookin’ Up Mayweather-De La Hoya Rematch?

Define Desperate.

Now that Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions has sealed it’s mega bout at Dallas Cowboys Stadium between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey.  Everyone is very excited to see the “typhoon of the pacific” stepping in the ring for 2010.  This has left Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaeferwondering if not losing there credibility as a promoter.  GBP insist that they also have a fight of their own at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 13th with Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs.  SOMEONE(still to be determined).

From TOP RANK PROMOTIONS: it is very clear that the Clottey/Pacquiao fight has already started to roll and it is not an easy fight for Pacquiao like what some fight fans think. Though the odds are simply higher for Pacquiao, this match is still highly anticipated if not the best fight for 2010. Joshua Clottey is one of the Top 10 great welterweights and has given Miguel Cotto a hard nut to crack from their last fight in June 2009.

From GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS:  all the boxing hard core fans are still puzzled on “who’s the man?” that can stand a challenge against Floyd Mayweather Jr., or let me rephrase… “who’s the man?” that Floyd didn’t duck from the past but has given huge number of audience?

It’s certainly not Paulie Malignaggi, since most boxing hard core fans dub him as a boxer with “feather gloves” if not a floppy mouth..lol (imagine both fighters running around the ring). Nor Matthew Hatton since Richard Schaefer has already erased him earlier from the wish list . Of course, don’t even try mentioning names like Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams or Sugar Shane Mosley, these names are still haunting Mayweather at night. lol.

My best pick, is Oscar De La Hoya Vs Mayweather Jr.. I have a few reasons as to why these two can still draw more fans:

1. GBP is on the brink of losing audiences because of the mess they just had with Pacquiao and Top Rank.  This is the best way to reclaim credibility and PPV audiences. With Oscar De La Hoya’s draw and the split decision which left everyone arguing, this fight is still something that can draw attention if not huge. Imagine, OSCAR vs Mayweather II- THE WORLD AWAITS…..AGAIN.

2. Of all the great welterweights and middleweights alive..lol, Oscar De La Hoya is the only name that Floyd had no trouble sleeping at night. Lmao. Floyd has already proven that De La Hoya can’t pull the trigger with Floyd’s punch and run style. And, it’s never too late for Oscar to claim that he wants revenge against Maywether. Geez.

3. Last, they obviously broke the pay per view mark together. They can prolly do it again, who knows? Man I confess, I have paid dearly my hard earned money to watch the fight but I ended up falling asleep. LoL

I know that this may seem impossible with Oscar De La Hoya already retired,  but who knows (please don’t flame me, I know that this sounds odd) how many fighters/athletes you’ve heard have proclaimed they have already retired and them came back for the love of the sport. lol

Floyd beat Baldomir that beat Clottey and you have the audacity of saying is a fight that can replace the one involving the 2 best p4p? Please tell me in what planet you spend most of your time? Or maybe your IQ is in double digits.

Clottey was disqualified in the Baldomir fight for head butting in the later rounds. He was winning the fight in all the scorecards before that.

Clottey fought Margarito and went the distance losing in a decision.

Clottey went the distance with Cotto as well losing in another decision.

Despite the losses (which were close), he fought elite welterweights that Mayweather hasn’t.

I don’t know about other people out there but I thought this was supposed to be an English article. Sorry Mark, but like Mayweather in boxing, you just blew your future as a writer. Extra! Floyd agreed to drop all bullshit blood test and Pacquiao is now ready to fight. The fight is Floyd’s gift to the boxing world. According to karceno, an insider in GBP, Floyd will have the bigger share of the 85 to 15 pot for this big challenge of his comeback. Bobby Pacquiao will start training next week for this fight!

guys just admit it,megafight was cancelled because of gayweather..if you look at gayweather’s trending..he choses his opponents wherein he is in he is guaranteed a victor. after all these years why he did not choose the welterweights giants like cotto because he knows that he will gonna lose the “0″ on his mark…i salute floyd he is so clever, nonetheless he is the undefeated one…but it not a shame if you lose as long as you did your best! admirable people are honored not because of their achievement but because of how they rose after they fall…

i remember that fight it was sometime last year.. i wont deny that the floyd/oscar fight was a real crowd drawer but they blew it.. i mean i cant really argue on who should have won. I mean, floyd didnt throw real hard punch that hurt oscar and oscar cant seem to catch floyd.

it should have been a draw… i should have watched the delayed telecast and spend the money somewhere else.

i may watch floyd/oscar II, if that happens but if it happens the same day with pac/clottey… i will definitely watch floyd/oscar delayed telecast.. its still good though and i think its the best time for both floyd/oscar to regain trust and audience.

but i love manny.. man this guy is amazing, like f5 tornado or something.

your a nuthugger bro.. yea right. thats what you are.

Mayweather fighting DLH would be the biggest bullsh*t of boxing. DLH winning would have no bearing because we all know that he got beaten by Pac. The outcome would be orchestrated because GBP owned by DLH would want to build up Mayweather.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao will probably still happen later. I am not crossing my fingers but after finding out that Mayweather is using drugs to numb his fists in his fights (the same reason why he only wants to fight at Nevada), his 40-0 record is null and void and not even worthy of sharing the ring with Manny Pacquiao.

Your statement is not accurate. Baldomir DID NOT BEAT CLOTTEY> Clottey was beating Baldomir decidely on all three scorecards up until the point that Clottey was DISQUALIFIED by a headbutt in the 10th and another in the 11th. Yes Baldomir got the victory by a disqualification but that is not the same AS BEATING DOWN your opponent. Hence deception is a form of dishonesty.

Manny’s camp ask for the fight as Freddie Roach announce it after Cotto’s fight. Mayweather senior told everyone that Manny is taking steriods and that was the start of all the trouble of all negotiations. They (Gayweather)did not want the fight with Pacquiao in the first place and that is the fact. Pacman did not avoid the fight because they are the one who ask for the fight when Roach said, “I want Mayweather”, remember that phrase?

of course what you are forgetting, is that floyd already walked away from a rematch with Oscar. Remember when FLoyd retired(2nd retirement) at that time he had a date set, with a guarantee of 20million to fight Oscar. The fight was going to be at 147 so Oscar fought Steve Forbes at a catchweight of 150 first. FLoyd made his Uncle(roger) quit Forbes corner because he didnt want Roger training a guy to beat Oscar and possibly spoiling the rematch. Then for no reason at all floyd decided to retire and walk away for the fight. Any of this ringing a bell ??????

Kentucky Floyd Chicken has ducked himself into a tight spot.

Now, KFC has to pick a legit opponent i.e. Cotto, Margarito, Williams or Mosley for March 13 or no one will watch his fight.

If he chooses a weaker opponent, HBO will choose Pacquiao vs Clottey. Hahaha

That’s a terrible idea. The fight would not even be worthy of PPV. At the very least De La Hoya would not only need to fight a tune-up opponent, but he would have to dominate and knock out that opponent for anyone to think to take it seriously. De La Hoya coming out of retirement to fight someone who already beat him in a fairly dominating fashion would not upstage Joshua Clottey/Manny Pacquiao.
