During an interview with ESPN, Top Rank promotions CEO, Bob Arum, via phone call from the Philippines said that Manny Pacquiao has decided to fight again on HBO Pay-per-view May 7, 2011 scraping the original April date that was suggested for Pacquiao’s ring return. The likely venue to hold Manny’s next boxing match is MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Manny decided to push the date from April 16 to May 7 because of his congressional duties that he must first take care of. May 7th is Cinco De Mayo weekend a successful weekend for big boxing events and the same day as the Kentucky Derby, Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach felt that they were juggling too many things at one time during their last training camp for Antonio Margarito and believe they would be better off fighting in May instead of April.
The opponent that Manny and his people want is Floyd Mayweather Jr., who probably won’t be available since he has been accused of assault by his ex-fiancee and has a court date coming up.
The leading options are Sugar Shane Mosley, WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto, and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Bob Arum and Freddie Roach are currently in the Philippines ready to attend Manny Pacquiao’s 32nd birthday bash on December 17.
