I understand that the great boxer Henry Armstrong was successful in moving up several weight classes and winning world titles as well as Roberto Duran, but never in the history of boxing has a fighter not only moved up in weight and win, but has destroyed the bigger, stronger opponents like Manny Pacquiao has done.
Are we turning a blind eye like Major League baseball did many years ago? To get the fans to come back to the ball park, in the Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa era…
It is more frequently seen today that boxers are testing positive for steroid and performance enhancement drug use and only these millionaire fighters are able to take some type of substance like some of the guilty Olympic athletes’ took to block the positive results.
If boxing is in a sad state right now, imagine the consequences of somebody getting killed in the boxing ring by another fighter and that fighter who killed his opponent tested positive for banned substances, that extra boost from the illegal steroids or performance enhancing drugs could have caused this death, if stricter drug testing was implemented it could have prevented the tragedy.
To all the sanctioning bodies as a life long student of the sport, I plead with you not to over look this issue, because it will bring boxing to an all time low.
